David has over twelve years' experience teaching brass to all ages - both privately and as part of the Hull, Essex and Norfolk Music Hubs - which also included "Wider Opportunities" in schools. He was also brass tutor for the Academy East Music School based at Colchester Institute, and regularly coached the lower brass of the Essex Youth Orchestra and Essex Young People's Orchestra. David also regularly teaches for the North East Lincolnshire Music Hub - helping promote music in primary and secondary schools - as well as brass and piano teacher at John Spendluffe Technology College in Alford.
Music tuition is available to anyone regardless of their qualifications, standard or experience. David is available to give brass lessons on trumpet, cornet, trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, baritone horn, tenor horn, French horn and tuba. Tuition is also available if you are studying for GCSEs, A levels and music theory.
Pupils can learn a wide variety of music from pop to show tunes, classical and jazz and can be prepared for graded exams such as the ABRSM or simply learn for pleasure.
Some of David's pupils have also gone on to study at leading music conservatoires around the country, to pursue their aspirations of a music career with leading professionals.

Big Band Coaching:
Big Band Coaching is available to any groups who feel they would benefit from advice in regards to phrasing, style and rehearsal techniques. David has many years' experience as a Musical Director of his own big band, and plays regularly up and down the country with many of the professional big bands.
A big band coaching session will include an hour's sectional with the trombones, then a full band rehearsal for an hour on repertoire that is currently being worked on for an up and coming concert or performance.
It is also possible to book individual trombone lessons before the coaching session if required. The response to coaching has been very positive, and bands that David has coached in the past include the Tony Farrell Big Band (based in Nottingham) the Big Swing Band (based in Louth, Lincolnshire) and the Bluestones Big Band (based in Old Bolingbroke, Spilsby).
The cost of a two hour big band coaching session is a bargain at £60. Individual trombone lessons are at the normal lesson prices.

"Starting to play trombone is very hard at any age, but at the age of 70 it is even harder! David has been so patient with me and has taught me how to play pieces I would never have dreamed of playing!"
- Ivor, 70

- Rachel, 15
"I find that your approach to teaching is absolutely perfect for me: structured but enjoyable with lots of little add-ons that make it all so interesting. Everything feels possible."
- Lesley, 63
"After a few months of self-tuition a one-off lesson with David helped me to make much better use of the time I set aside for practice. I found all of his suggestions extremely helpful and I was grateful for his at-all-times-constructive criticism. Added to that he was a very nice chap to spend a few hours with. I shall certainly be back for more advice in the future..."
- Tom, 28
"Playing the trombone is cool! David is a really good teacher and I learn lots of pieces!"
- Rob, 9
